Lakers GM Offers A Timeline On The Head Coaching Search

The Los Angeles Lakers just started a search for a new head coach.

They fired their last coach, Frank Vogel, on Monday morning just hours after their season came to a disappointing end.

That kicked off a hunt for someone to replace Vogel and there have already been multiple names tossed around.

That raises the question: just how long will this process take?

Rob Pelinka, General Manager of the team, said that the team is hoping to have a new coach by the time the NBA Draft happens in mid-June.

That’s actually a relatively short timeline for such a major job.

Does this mean the front office really does already have a comprehensive list of their top choices?

Leading The Lakers

There are quite a few well-known names already involved in the head coach search.

Doc Rivers of the Philadelphia 76ers, Quin Snyder of the Utah Jazz, and Nick Nurse of the Toronto Raptors are just some of the men mentioned.

But there are many other possibilities being tossed around.

Some of them – like Phil Jackson – are far-fetched and others are a bit more down to earth, such as Juwan Howard or Mark Jackson.

Based on the latest rumors, the Lakers have a few ideas in mind.

In the next few months, they will surely meet with each candidate and get a feel for how they could help the team turn things around.

That’s a tall order and will require a level of expertise and determination that few people have.

This is perhaps the most important coach search in the history of the team.

Their time with LeBron James is running out and the team desperately wants another championship ring before he retires.

In order to do that, they’ll need a really brilliant mind to lead them.
