Artur Beterbiev vs Joe Smith Jr. Prediction and Odds (Expect Joe Smith Jr. To Put Up Decent Fight)

We have another title fight on the docket this weekend. Artur Beterviev, the unified light-heavyweight champion will defend his belts against Joe Smith Jr., the WBO light heavyweight champion.

Smith Jr. will be just over six months removed from his knockout win against Steve Geffrard in January of this year when he steps into the ring against Beterbiev. Smith Jr. is on a hot streak right now, but he’s facing the best in the game on Saturday. Will he be able to hold his own?

Let’s dive into the odds for this one.

Artur Beterbiev vs. Joe Smith Jr. Odds and Over/Under

Moneyline:

  • Bieterbiev: -700
  • Smith Jr.:  +500

Total Rounds:

  • 8.5  (Over: -145/Under: +125)

Artur Beterbiev vs. Joe Smith Jr.  Prediction and Pick

Smith Jr. has made a career of being the “underdog that could.” He’s won his last four fights, two by decision and two by KO. Against Bieterbiev, he’s going to need all 12 rounds to get the win because there is no way he’s knocking him out.

I would take Beterbiev to end this fight early, as he has in every single one of his previous fights. He’s 17-0 with 17 knockouts –  a crazy ratio. With that being said, Smith Jr. does have a few advantages. He has three inches of reach on Beterbiev, and he’s five years younger. Nevertheless, the experience of Beterbiev will come through and his power will end this fight early.

I think asking for a knockout — even form Beterbiev — in anything earlier than the ninth round is a bit much. I’ll back Smith Jr. to last at least eight rounds and cash on the OVER.

Pick: OVER 8.5 Rounds (-145)
