All reports said that Irving was ready to ditch the Brooklyn Nets and that he had his heart set on joining LeBron James and the rest of the LA squad.
Most speculation even said he was willing to sacrifice millions of dollars to do it.
In the end, Irving instead opted to re-sign with the Nets, putting an end to all the speculation (for now).
But the very thought of Irving playing on the Lakers got people thinking of just how messy that whole situation could have been.
Rob Perez pointed out that Irving alongside Russell Westbrook could have created some must-see TV.
“If Kyrie somehow finds his way to the Lakers with Westbrook still on the roster their games should be eligible to win a Primetime Emmy. First time ever. Outstanding Drama series or Outstanding Comedy, doesn’t matter, either will do.”
Even devoted Lakers fans have to admit that Irving and Westbrook could have made quite the pair – for some complicated reasons.
Irving’s personality is the type that often clashes with others.
He is definitely opinionated and determined and some would say stuck in his ways.
As for Westbrook, the same things could be said about him.
These two could have really clashed and bumped heads all the time.
What would that have done to the team and the dynamics within it?
It could have made a serious mess.
It’s true that Irving on the Lakers could have helped them out a lot but the chances of a disaster were also there.
All in all, it would have been very fascinating to watch.
